I am new to this but am seeking information on Polymyalgia Rheumatica and the treatment of Prednisone.  I was diagnosed and put on Prednisone on June 23rd.

I am terrified of the side effects of the treatment.  I have started walking 30 minutes in the morning and the evening and am eating just cereal in the morning and the rest of the day eat fruits and vegetables.  I am wondering if I continue this if it will be possible to keep the weight off.  Also, since I have not quite been on the Prednisone for a month when I can expect these side effects to show up.  I started with 60mg for 3 days, went to 40 and am now on 30mg.  In a couple of days I can reduce the dosage to 25mg.  Any suggestions on diet or anything else.  What I know about PMR and Prednisone is just the few websites that I have located online.

I would appreciate any advice or input.  Thanks so much,

JMBR

hi jmbr...i dont claim to know everthing about prednisone, and everyone responds differently to it,but i can share what i do know. the weight gain is not automatic...so stay loose and dont panic. it does often increase appetite...and THAT is why people gain wt...eating too much of the snack foods. if you want to feel well and stay healthy, eat a well balanced diet and continue to exersize. you can still maintain your wt. people on pred in high doses, for long periods of time do tend to get a "moon face"...but not "moon body" unless you really pick up a huge appetite. sounds like you are on decreasing dose to a lower level for a daily dose. lower dose helps keep appy down, but may not work as well for the pain.     good luck!
