Topic: Gout Research Discussion Posted: 15 June 2005 at 9:34am |
20/20 Research Online is currently conducting a research project with people who HAVE been diagnosed with GOUT. We are inviting people across the country to participate in a telephone interview that will be taking place on Tuesday, June 21st, Wednesday, June 22nd or Thursday, June 23rd.
The telephone interview will last 60 minutes, and will be facilitated by an experienced professional moderator. You are required to have Internet access at the time of the telephone interview and for the duration of the interview.
As a token of appreciation for your time and participation, we will send you a check for $50 as a thank-you for your time.
We’d like for you to participate in a very brief (3-5 minutes) online survey to see if you qualify for the study.
Click below to begin the screening survey:

Thanks, and we hope to see you online soon!
(No sales or solicitations, ever. Strictly research)

Curious as to your question Conda. I have RA...not gout; although there at first I had a horrible time with that first joint on my feet.
But I'm highly allergic to seafood. Shellfish inparticular. I've never heard anthing mentioned about seafod and any form of rhumatic illness. Have you? I'm quite interested in seeing the replies to this.
Welcome. Hope you'll stick around and get to know some of us. We don't have too many with Gout that I know of; but we all seem to be affected by alot of the same things.
Welcome again.

RE: "Can anyone tell me if shrimp is an ok food to eat on the gout diet" by conda.
Certainly. Shrimps contain only about 2.5 times as much uric acid as
bananas or wheat. Just don't eat way too much. The following is the approximate
uric acid content of some foods and drinks.
Food & drinks (100 grams)...Uric acid content (mg.)
---------------------------------------------------------- ----- Apple...........................................15
Asparagus...................................25
Banana........................................60 Bean sprout, soy..........................80
Beef...........................................120
Beer.............................................15
Broccoli........................................80
Carrot..........................................20
Cauliflower...................................50
Cherry, sweet...............................10
Cheese, cottage...........................10
Chicken......................................120
Grape...........................................30 Ham............................................130
Liver, ox.......................................555
Liver, pig......................................510
Lobster........................................120
Mushroom.....................................60
Pork............................................140
Raisins........................................110
Salmon.......................................170
Shrimp........................................150
Tofu..............................................70
Wheat, whole grain.......................50
---------------------------------------------------------- -----
"... A rigid purine restricted diet is of
dubious therapeutic value and can rarely be sustained for long", so
says a gout expert, professor a. G. Fam in "gout, diet, and the insulin
resistance syndrome" at http://www.Jrheum.Com/subscribers/02/07/1350.Html
There are many other things gout patients can do to prevent gout besides to be on a low
purine diet. They can be found in section 2 of http://www.icuredmygout.org/ .

Again Ron, shut up. Are you a medical professional? Nope.
Just someone with some "cure" to try to push on people. I've had
it with idiots like you.
