I chose to do ankle fusions over ankle replacements (both ankles recently). Ankle replacement wasn't a good option for me because it doesn't last as long as say hips and knees do. Also, if I found out that the replacement didn't alleviate the pain, then they wouldn't have much to work with to fuse it. Fusion lasts longer, although it does restrict mobility (I can no longer move ankles up and down, it's just staying in the up position forever), I very rarely have pain in them now. Before I had my ankle fusions, I had ALOT of pain in them. Hope this helps ya'll!!
