Health Insurance-Are You Satisified?

The Good!

It's only fair! We bad mouthed the insurance companies yesterday, so let's find the good today. We asked you to tell us about a pleasant health insurance experience.

I have needed many braces and medications. When I need to call the insurance company they have, for the most part, been very nice to me. -Sue S

My total Knee Replacement in November, 2000. The only cost we had to pay out of pocket to the surgeon was $65.00. And, they paid completely for the necessary Home Health Care post-surgery, as well as all other medical costs and hospital stay. We would have been in debt for the rest of our lives without this kind of insurance. -Nanny

I have been spoiled with health insurance, all claims being paid, on time, and anyone I have ever had to talk to was pleasant. -Daisy

My present health insurance plan pays the majority of the cost for Enbrel medication that I'm on and that was a very pleasant acknowledgment. -Linda T

My company recently changed insurance and I needed some refills, but I had not received my insurance cards. The Human Resource department gave me the phone number of the insurance company to call for assistance with the refills. Once I called the insurance company the customer service rep went out of her way to make sure I had all the information needed to get my refills without my card. -Susan

When I went to work for present employer, I sent in my prescription for Enbrel and they filled it, sent me back 3 months supply for $15. As easy as that! -Bettty

When they said they would cover the Remicade, after at first saying that they would not. -Stephanie

When I found out we had an HMO figuring I had to go thru all those referral things again, found out with the HMO plan we have being -open ended- I don't need referral from my family dr. -Marena

I caught an error on hospital billing and called the insurance. The refunded me half of the error! Way to go! -Denise

There isn't one, I'm sorry to say -Nancy

Try as hard as I can, I simply can not recall a single preasant health insurance experience. -Margot

About 4 years ago, my husband was a new employee, (less than 90 days), and I fell and broke my leg. The coverage started on the 1st day of the month following his employment. I was covered from that day, too. The company picked up ALL COSTS involved with the broken leg, including any equipment (chair, commode, hospital bed, etc) and PT for nearly a year, no questions! We were very lucky, and we know it! -Elaine

They paid the bill without question! -Linda B

Most pleasant was when I had surgery several years ago. I had MedPoint, Plan A at that time. The doctor wanted me to pay $300.00 in advance...I said, no way! Turned out, I payed nothing at all for the surgery, hospital or surgeon! That was indeed a pleasant experience! -Anita

called one plan when i was 45 (now 52) when i was waiting for ok for 1 mos. in between needed p.t. for shoulder problem........i told them it was going to cost them alot more to treat it by delaying what was working and that i would never consider having this ins. again......surpringly i got a call back in about 10 min with ok for more p.t. (which did help) -maggie

can't think of any, except for coverage of meds. -Peggy

My primary care physicians office has a very competent and pleasant woman (Carol) who does the referrals. The doctors on staff in this office are all very professional but, friendly and competent. -Maureen

5/6 years ago, when both my spouse and I were working and had good benefits. It was so easy! and cheap! -Carol J

Starting Jan.1, we don't need a referral to a specialist. That was nice. -Mary

When they covered my laparoscopic surgery which diagnosed me with endometriosis. I didn't want to pay for that myself since the anesthesiologist alone was about a $1,000. -Jen

Today I saw my primary care doctor who I adore and she had to prescribe quite a few new prescriptions and when I went to the drugstore they were all covered. -Lori

ALL MY EXPERIENCES HAVE BEEN PLEASANT -Joallan

All of my health insurance experiences have been pleasant. My doctor makes referrals when needed and my insurance covers it. -Jill

The lack of complaints from Optimum Choice during the illness. Doctors across the country believe Marylanders have the best available medical care in the world. We have had access to every specialist that Hospkins has available. God bless Johns Hopkins. -Judy

EXCEPT FOR MEDICATION ISSUE ALL EXPERIENCES PLEASANT.THEY HAVE EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES AVAILABLE 24 H0URS A DAY TO ASSIST WITH ANY QUESTIONS -Virginia

My insurance does pay for my Remicade infusions. Once I reach my yearly deductable, they cover all costs of the infusion, which is really nice. -Michael

Not necessarily "pleasant" but satisfied that my expenses are currently covered. -Janice

In 1998 I had a TIA and was transported by ambulance over 40 miles. Insurance picked up all the bill. An MRI in November of 2001 ran around $1300 and my part was $15. -Bob

I had a representative help me ge my prescription filled when the (merck) would not refill it because it was too soon -June

I had Pacificare SecureHorizons for last couple of years and I had a bad year this past year for surgeries(4 abdominal in 9 months)This ins used to cover everything with only a $7.00 copay...and I bet I had 20 CT SCans too.BUt then this yr they have raised copay for outpatient surgery to $150. 00 up front ,overnight in hospital is $300.00 up front....doubled price of generic drugs from $7 to$15 and no brand names..and the changes just go on and not in favor of people on a fixed income. -Judy

When the nurse on staff finally approved Enbrel when no one else knew what I was talking about. -KP

I have been unable to work since being diagnosed with RA on November 21, 2001 and still I was going by the employee pharmacy and charging to my paycheck all of my scripts so far. So, I called Human Resources and asked how much did I need to send a check for since I am out on Medical Leave of Absense and they said Nothing!!! IT will be decuted the first couple of week that you are able to return to work, so you needn't worry about that at this time. I was very blessed to say the least. -Lynn

Getting free parking at a hospital in addition to all the bills being covered! -Amanda

I was happy to have Enbrel covered without any problems. -Sue K

I met my deductable and everything was paid for 100% -Royale

Had a problem with payment on a mammogram. The nice lady on the phone at the insurance company called me to report that payment had been made..How thoughtful. -Anne
