Help Please , I very worried ! I have been taking Embrel for 2 1/2 years. In the past, I have had a small injection site reaction (quarter size)that lasted 1 or 2 hours. SOMETHING happened with my injection on Saturday . I am having a reaction that measures 5 inches long and 5 inches wide.  It is HOT, RED, SWELLING,!! I called Embrel Sunday, They stated It might last 3 to 5 days to take Bendryl . I did but early this morning the pain was WORSE! I looked and there are BIG BLISTERS! I went to the DR. , They were worried and have never seem any injection site reaction look that. The Dr. put me on Bactrim and Percocet (the blisters are very painful).  They told me come back in the morning if anymore blisters form or any changes for the worse. Has anyone else had this problem ?? Any advice ??

Wow...can't say that ever happened to me! Its no fun being the "unique patient!" Hope things are improving by now!

Hi,

I wouldn't take another dose of Enbrel unless told to do so by a Rheumatologist. I have had reactions to antibiotics before and I would be suspicious of an allergic or other adverse reaction to the Enbrel. Its your body and you have a right to have any questions about whats happened to you answered to your satisfaction. Good luck to you.

It sounds like an infection bactrim is an antibiotic.  i have had several infections because of taking mtx and enbrel.  It sounds like the area is infected and that is why it is so hot and red it sounds almost like blood poisoning.  The worse I had was a cut on my leg and the infection went up my leg.  Let us know what happens, if the bactrim doesn;t do the trick completely they will probably put you on Cipro, very very strong antibioti.  I am sorry you are having so much trouble.  Meme

I had an injection site reaction similar to the one you had but without the blistering.  The  only time that this happened to me was when I injected into my leg.  Every since then I have injected into my abdomen which leaves me with little to no injection site reaction.  I  take a couple of doses of Benadryl on the day that I inject to keep the reaction down to a minimum. sounds like cellulitis, keep it clean and dry, watch the area of redness-it should get smaller, never larger. If it does get worse in any way, or if you start having fever or other symptoms  you need to be seen right away. They may need to change your abx and I agree, you need to let your RD know whats going on, I am sure they want you off of the Enbrel for now.MM's Mom ,  I had a reaction BLISTERS and All.   My Dr. put me on bactrim and pain meds.  The reaction lasted about a week. The place was on my hip and measured about 5 inches by 4 inches.  My dr. called Embrel and they told them that they had never heard of a reaction like this.  I think they are telling a story .....  We can't be the only 2 people that this happened to.  Send me a private message and we can discuss this with more detail. cheermom38891.3742013889
