I have  a  few  RA  nodules  on my  wrists  /hands  does anyone here  have these  ?   do they  go  /shrink  ? and  what   exactly  causes  them  is it  the  inflamation  ?

Gilly, I don't know. I just don't like seeing a zero

Linda

Hi Gilly I had three nodules on the inside of my left elbow. My elbow was swelling and seizing up so bad that my RD drained my elbow and injected some cortisone into the joint. My elbow has done better since then and about 3 weeks after the nodules went away. The RD was pleasantly surprised that happened.

There's some images of hands on there too. Hope this helps. hammerstein120039327.6235300926

Hi Gilly...I've had a few nodules over the years.  Some have gone away...even after having them a few years.  Those that have gone away were on my wrist and elbow.  The ones that have not gone away are on my feet/ankle.

I've got nodules just below the elbow on both arms. They just sort of popped up out of nowhere last year, and each eventually grew to about the size of half a golf ball. They were painless, but extremely ugly. Once I began taking Humira, they began to slowly shrink. The one on my left arm is almost gone, and the one on my right arm is about the size of a pea. Hopefully, they'll both be completely gone in a few months. Those are the only nodules I've had in 12 years with RA.

Thanks  for  the  link  i  have looked  at the  picture  gallery

I hope  the  nodules  dissapear   they  somehow dont look pretty  I had one just below each elbow for about a year right after I came down with RA.  They gradually faded and are now gone.Gilly I hope that they do too.

Hi Gilly,

I also have them below each elbow.  The come and go, but I always seem to have some.

When I was younger I'd get them on my knuckles, all over. They were tiny, almost looked like pimples. I was a naughty kid and played with them, even when they hurt. So now my knuckles are a little scarred. :( Don't mess with 'em.....lol

Hopefully they will go away, mine did as the RA was eventually under control.

Good Morning Everyone!

I have had RA for about 7 or 8 months now.  I am curious what are nodules and what causes some people to get them and not others.  So far, I have not experienced this part of RA.

Thanks, Anne

Here's a good link

"Rheumatoid nodules are the most common extra-articular manifestation of rheumatoid arthritis (RA); about 25% of adult patients with RA have them.1,2 About 90% of patients with RA and subcutaneous nodules test positive for rheumatoid factor, and 40% of all seropositive patients with RA have subcutaneous nodules.3 Rheumatoid nodules are clinical predictors of more severe arthritis, seropositivity, joint erosions, and rheumatoid vasculitis.2 The presence of rheumatoid nodules often suggests a need for more aggressive treatment of the underlying RA to prevent sequelae."

Anne & Gilly - I first reported a swollen, red elbow, then a series of medium-sized nodules on the bottom side of my left forearm almost three years ago.  I also have two confirmed nodules in my right lung field that were first picked up on xray almost 30 years ago, and I was told they were calcified lymph nodes.  I have a good sized nodule on my right hip ileum picked up by MRI almost two years ago.  That one might have to be removed if the sciatic episodes start up again.

I've had them too - elbows and wrists. They come and go. I haven't had any now for many years.

I have a fluid filled bump that showed up on the top of my ankle about two weeks ago.  It has gone done slightly.  It is fairly firm but tender to the touch.  And, since it is on the top of where my ankle joint bends, it is hurting my joint.  Is this a nodule?
I have a fluid filled bump that showed up on the top of my ankle about two weeks ago.  It has gone done slightly.  It is fairly firm but tender to the touch.  And, since it is on the top of where my ankle joint bends, it is hurting my joint.  Is this a nodule?
Nodules  are  supposed  to  be  non tender ( thats  what  i  have  read ) it would  be  worth  showing  your  consultant  to  see  what  he/she says I've had nodulars too.  I had one taken out of thumb 29+ years ago - I too have had them come and go on my elbows - i Have on on the bottom of my toe right now

I told him that I wasn't ready for surguries fifteen and sixteen.

My first nodules appeared on the knuckles of the middle finger of each hand in 2004. I went off to see a hand doctor and had steriod injections right into the finger.. that smarted a bit

I have had two nodules on my left shoulder since I was pregnant with my almost 15 year old son.  When I first showed them to my ob/gyn (cause I had never heard the words RA before), he said that they were blemishes and would go away.  After my son was born and I started having what I now know were flare ups (still not knowing that RA was going to be a part of my life), they told me it was a sign of infection.  After my PCP finally put all of my symptoms together, he told me what they were.  I still have them, they aren't painful, and they have a few 'friends'.  All of them around my right shoulder.  Which amazingly is probably the only joint in my body that doesn't give me any problem, but does show ugly damage on xray.  I am one of the lucky ones in that it has been a very slow progression until lately.
